Texas Minority Counsel Program Attracts Hundreds of Legal Professionals to San Antonio

(San Antonio) – The State Bar of Texas Office of Minority Affairs will present the 17th annual Texas Minority Counsel Program, "Networking and Inclusion: A Path to Prosperity," Sept. 3-4 at the Hyatt Regency, San Antonio.

The keynote presentation on Thursday will be a panel discussion moderated by Jeanne C. "Cezy" Collins of Kemp Smith LLP in El Paso, and featuring U.S. District Court Judge Sam A. Lindsay of Dallas, U.S. District Court Judge Philip R. Martinez of El Paso, and Justice Linda Yanez of the Thirteenth Court of Appeals in Edinburg. Speakers on Friday include Supreme Court of Texas Chief Justice Wallace B. Jefferson.

The first ever "TMCP Corporate Counsel of the Year Award" will also be presented. Finalists for the award include Gary F. Kennedy, senior vice president & general counsel, American Airlines, Inc.; Wayne Watts, senior executive vice president & general counsel, AT&T Inc.; and Thomas E. Evans, vice president & general counsel-Logistics, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.

The event, expected to attract 400 attendees, offers recruiting advantages for corporations and government agencies committed to diversity and seeking highly qualified minority and women attorneys as outside counsel. The conference will provide informational interviewing opportunities, networking, and continuing legal education for minority and women lawyers and corporate and government counsel. The Texas Minority Counsel Program was formed in 1993 with the mission of increasing opportunities for minority and women attorneys who provide legal services to corporate and government clients, and to expose those organizations to top legal talent. The State Bar of Texas is an administrative agency of the Supreme Court of Texas. The Bar provides educational programs for the legal profession and the public, administers the minimum continuing legal education program for attorneys, and manages the attorney discipline system.
