Students Compete in Texas Championship on U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights

(Austin) – High school students from across Texas will demonstrate their knowledge of American rights and responsibilities as they compete in simulated congressional hearings on constitutional issues.

"We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution" Statewide Competition
Saturday, Dec. 13, 9:30 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.
State Bar of Texas President Harper Estes will announce winners at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Texas Capitol, East Extension

The following schools are advancing to the state finals after winning their congressional district competitions:
Calhoun High School, Port Lavaca
Creekview High School, Carrollton
Dallas International, Dallas
Elkins High School, Missouri City
Horizon High School, El Paso
Lamar Academy, McAllen
Liberty High School, Frisco
Richardson High School, Richardso
n San Marcos High School, San Marcos

The winner will represent Texas at the national finals in Washington, D.C. in April 2009.

"We the People" is a joint effort of a nationwide network of educators, civic leaders, the business community and members of Congress, including the Center for Civic Education, and the U.S. Department of Education. "We the People" is just one State Bar Law-Related Education program that engages students and encourages civic involvement. The State Bar of Texas is an administrative agency of the Supreme Court of Texas. The Bar provides educational programs for the legal profession and the public, administers the minimum continuing legal education program for attorneys, and manages the attorney discipline system.
